How we work
A steel door on a wood frame with a thin strike plate held by three-quarter-inch screws is a steel door that opens with one kick. We check what the frame is made of, how it is anchored, and what is behind the strike, and quote a door with the frame work it needs. Sometimes the frame is most of the job.
The frame is anchored through to the studs or the masonry, not just to the trim. The strike plate is a heavy one, screwed into the stud with long screws. The hinge side gets security studs or non-removable pins so the door cannot be lifted off from outside. Then the door is hung on it.
The deadbolt is fitted so it throws fully with two fingers and the bolt seats in the reinforced strike. The closer, if there is one, is adjusted so the door latches on its own. We test it closed and locked from both sides, and leave you with the keys and the count of copies.

The steel door and, where the old one is weak, a new or reinforced frame anchored to the wall; the hinges, with security studs on an out-swinging door; the deadbolt and a long-screw strike; and a door sweep. On a business's back door we also look at the exit side, so the door still opens from inside with one motion.
A good one is: a welded steel frame, a steel mesh or grille, a deadbolt and hinges that cannot be reached from outside, anchored into the house framing. A cheap one is a screen door with a lock, and it comes off with a pry bar. The difference is in the frame, the hinges and how it is anchored, which is why we quote the installation and not just the door.
Often, yes. A reinforced strike with long screws, a door reinforcement wrap at the lock, hinge-side security studs and a heavy-duty deadbolt do more than most people expect. If the door itself is hollow or the frame is rotten, we say so and quote the replacement.
