Is a security screen door actually secure?
A good one is: a welded steel frame, a steel mesh or grille, a deadbolt and hinges that cannot be reached from outside, anchored into the house framing. A cheap one is a screen door with a lock, and it comes off with a pry bar. The difference is in the frame, the hinges and how it is anchored, which is why we quote the installation and not just the door.
Can you make my existing door more secure without replacing it?
Often, yes. A reinforced strike with long screws, a door reinforcement wrap at the lock, hinge-side security studs and a Grade 1 deadbolt do more than most people expect. If the door itself is hollow or the frame is rotten, we say so and quote the replacement.
What is the best lock for a security door?
A Grade 1 deadbolt with a one-inch bolt into a reinforced strike, for most homes. For a business door, a mortise lock or a deadbolt with a latch guard, and an exit device where the door is a required exit. The lock only matters if the strike and frame hold, so we fit them together.
Do you install security doors on stores, restaurants and warehouses?
Yes. The back door is where most break-ins at a store or restaurant happen, and it is usually the lightest door on the building. We fit steel doors with latch guards, security bars or exit devices and continuous hinges, and we can prep the door for a camera or an access reader.
Do you key the new door to my existing keys?
Yes, where the lock brands allow it. We can key the new door alike with your other doors, or set up a master system for a building. We hand over the keys with a count of how many exist.
How long does a security door installation take?
A security screen door over a sound frame is usually a couple of hours. A full steel door and frame is typically a day per opening, longer when the frame is set in masonry or the old frame has to come out.
