What does a new storefront door installation include?
The aluminum door made to fit the opening, tempered glass, the pivots or hinges, a closer, the lock and cylinder, the pull and push bar or panic hardware, and the weatherstrip and sweep. If the frame is replaced too, it is set, anchored and sealed. The written estimate lists each of those, so you can see what the number is paying for.
My storefront door drags on the floor. Is that the closer?
Usually not. A door that drags has dropped, and it drops when the bottom pivot wears out or the top pivot loosens. Replacing the pivot set and re-hanging the door level fixes it; adjusting the closer does not. We check both on the visit and tell you which it is.
What should I text you for a storefront door estimate?
A photo of the whole entrance from outside, close ones of the top and bottom of the door where it pivots, the lock, and any crack in the glass, plus the address. Text them to (470) 691-8439. A dragging or slamming door can often get a written estimate from the photos alone; new glass or a new door is measured on site first.
The glass in the door broke. Can you secure it today?
When the schedule allows, yes: we board or panel the opening so the store is closed to weather and open to customers, measure for tempered glass, and glaze it when it arrives. Tempered glass is made to order, so the replacement is a second visit.
Do you repair glass doors in office buildings and condo lobbies?
Yes. An office or lobby glass door fails the way a storefront does: the pivot wears, the closer leaks, the lock stops lining up. We repair or replace it, and a building with several glass doors can have them looked at on one visit.
Can you replace just the door and keep the storefront frame?
In most cases. Aluminum storefront frames outlast the doors in them. If the frame is square, anchored and not corroded at the floor, a new door ordered to its opening is the cheaper job. We tell you when the frame should go too.
Why does the door slam, or not close at all?
Both are the closer. A closer that has lost its fluid slams; one with the arm or spring set wrong hangs open. Some can be adjusted; most that are leaking are replaced with a closer sized for the door's width and weight.
Does a storefront exit door need panic hardware?
That depends on the building's occupancy and the exit route, which the fire marshal decides, not us. Restaurants and stores above a certain occupancy usually do. We install push-pad and crossbar exit devices on aluminum doors and can tell you what we see on similar buildings, but the code question goes to the marshal.
Aluminum-framed or all-glass: which commercial glass door should we install?
An aluminum-framed glass door is the workhorse: it takes a standard closer, a lock with a cylinder and, where the code asks for one, a panic bar, and it stands up to heavy traffic. An all-glass door, thick tempered glass held by fittings at the corners or rails along the top and bottom, looks more open, but it swings on pivots with a closer in the floor or hidden in the header, and takes a narrower choice of locks and exit hardware.
