Alpharetta businesses

Alpharetta's storefronts are newer or older, and they fail differently.

The newer retail in Alpharetta, around Avalon and in the mixed-use blocks downtown, favors tall glass: all-glass doors with patch fittings, or narrow-stile aluminum doors set in floor-to-ceiling storefront. Many of those doors hang on a floor closer, a closer sunk into a box in the slab under the door. When water gets into that box, from a sidewalk that is hosed down or rain blown under the door, the closer rusts and leaks, and the door stops coming back to center and drifts open instead of closing. The fix is a new closer, a sealed cover and the door set back on its pivot, and on an all-glass door it is done with the glass supported the whole time.

The older centers along North Point Parkway, Old Milton Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road went up mostly from the late 1980s through the 2000s, with medium-stile aluminum doors on surface or concealed overhead closers. Those Alpharetta doors are now on their second or third tenant, and the usual call is a door that sags against its threshold, a cracked corner where the stile meets the rail, or a lock the new tenant cannot get keys for. A door that has racked out of square is replaced in the frame; one that is merely worn gets new pivots, a closer and a cylinder.

In the handful of older buildings along Milton Avenue and Main Street in downtown Alpharetta, a storefront door may sit in the original opening of the building, fitted with modern glass. There the opening rarely matches a stock door size, so the door and frame are measured on site and made to the opening rather than the other way around.

What we do

Everything on a storefront entrance.

A storefront door drags, then chips the floor, then stops latching, then the glass cracks at the corner. Each step is cheaper to fix than the next one.

New storefront doors

Narrow, medium and wide stile aluminum doors, single or in pairs, with the frame and sidelites, glazed with tempered glass and fitted with the closer, lock and pull you choose.

Commercial glass doors in offices and lobbies

Aluminum-framed and all-glass doors at office suites, medical offices and condo or apartment lobbies, repaired and replaced like a storefront.

Glass replacement

Cracked or broken door glass secured and replaced with tempered glass cut to size. Insulated units where the entrance is heated and cooled.

Pivots and hinges

A door that drags or sits crooked usually has a worn bottom pivot or a loose top pivot. Replaced, and the door re-hung level.

Closers

Surface, concealed overhead and floor closers replaced or rebuilt so the door closes fully and quietly instead of slamming or hanging open.

Locks and hardware

Hookbolt and deadlatch locks, cylinders, thumbturns, push-pull bars and panic hardware fitted to aluminum stiles the right way.

Weatherstrip and sweeps

The brush and pile weatherstrip that stops the draft, the dust and the water at the threshold — the part that is missing on most doors we see.

How we do storefront doors, step by step

Why Alpharetta businesses choose us

Why our storefront doors stop needing calls.

The same door coming back every six months is a door that was adjusted instead of repaired. On every storefront door we work on:

  • Free written estimate after we look at the door
  • The failed part named, not just the door tightened
  • Tempered safety glass, measured to the stile
  • Pivots replaced and the door re-hung level
  • Closer sized to the door and adjusted to latch
  • Locks and cylinders fitted to aluminum stiles properly
  • Opening secured while glass is on order
  • Same-day service when the schedule allows

The quote

What storefront door work costs.

A pivot is a small number and a new pair of doors with sidelites is a large one. What decides the estimate is which part failed and whether the frame is still worth keeping.

Always included

  • Site visit and a free written estimate
  • Failed pivots, closers, locks or glass identified in writing
  • Tempered glass cut to size and glazed
  • Pivots, hinges and closers replaced and adjusted
  • Locks, cylinders and pulls fitted and keyed
  • New doors hung, glazed and adjusted to latch
  • Weatherstrip, sweep and threshold
  • Old door, glass and packaging hauled away

What changes the number

  • Repair against replacement: whether the door and frame are worth keeping
  • Single door or a pair, and the stile width
  • Clear, tinted or insulated glass
  • Surface closer, concealed overhead or floor closer
  • Standard lock or panic hardware on an exit door
  • Whether the frame or sidelites are replaced with the door

Good to know

Storefront doors questions from Alpharetta.

Your question is not here? Call (470) 691-8439 and put it to the crew directly.

Our all-glass door will not come back to center and stay closed. What is wrong?

Usually the floor closer under it. Once water gets into the closer's box in the slab, the closer loses its oil and its hold, and the door drifts. A new closer and a sealed cover usually fix it; we check the top pivot and the glass fittings at the same visit.

We took over a space in an older Alpharetta center. Can we keep the storefront door?

Often, yes. If the door is square and the corners are tight, new pivots, a closer and a new cylinder make it the new tenant's door for less than a replacement. If it has racked or the corners have opened, we tell you, and the estimate shows both.

Can you match the doors in a newer building with a set finish?

Yes. Newer buildings usually specify the finish, the stile and the hardware for every entrance. We work from the building's specification, or the doors already on the building, and put it in the written estimate before anything is ordered.
